Many recipes call for butter to ensure their structure, texture and added flavor. Nobody likes a dry, bland dessert, but what if a balance between sweetness and flavor could be achieved without the excess saturated fat content? Olive oil or extra virgin olive oil is the solution for healthier, delicious recipes!
How to use extra virgin olive oil in dessert recipes
Butter can be substituted with olive oil or extra virgin olive oil, but these ingredients are very different so we must understand how to use them correctly.
Butter to Olive Oil Conversion
A good rule of thumb is three parts of olive oil or extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) for every four parts of butter.
- ¼ cup butter = 3 tablespoons EVOO
- ½ butter = ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons EVOO
- 1 cup butter = ¾ cup EVOO
Since EVOO has a strong flavor, if you prefer something subtler, then try using a lighter alternative such as Sunflower Oil & Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
EVOO tends to work best in bread, rolls, cakes and even mousse, custard and ice cream. This extremely versatile ingredient is healthier but doesn’t sacrifice flavor.
